How to Light Palm Trees
Most palm trees are planted in southern landscapes, where it's warm and sunny year round. They grow up to 30 feet tall and their fronds spread around 8 feet wide. Show off your palm tree at night by installing landscape lighting. Aim the light up the trunk to fully display the palm tree. Spot lights or in-ground lighting are the best choices for that setup. Shine a flashlight on the palm tree from the position in which you'd place the actual light. Try a few different angles to find the best lighting position to highlight that tree. Watch where the light shines. Keep it out of your neighbor's yard and windows. Mark the light locations with either spray paint or a stake.

Mount the landscape lighting kit's power pack to your home's siding according to the manufacturer's instructions. Mount the pack near an outdoor electrical outlet.

Dig a trench 3 inches deep from the power pack to the palm tree with a flat-edged shovel. The trench will house the electrical cable, powering the lights. Connect the lights to the main cable, following the manufacturer's directions.

Push the lights' stakes part way into the markings under the palm tree. Use your fingers to push the electrical cable into the trench. Finish pushing the lights into the ground. Connect the electrical wire to the power pack, following the manufacturer's directions. Plug the power pack's cable into the electrical outlet and turn the lights on.

Adjust the angle of the light so it lights up the entire palm tree. Use your hands to move the light's head up and down. Wait until dark adjust the lights to get the full effect of the lighting.
