How to Tilt Back the Mixer Head on a KitchenAid Mixer

Save

Certain KitchenAid stand mixers include a tilting head that moves attachments out of the way while you access the mixing bowl and base or change the attachments. Failing to use the tilt feature properly can damage the mixer, especially if you do not lock the head into the proper position before turning on the mixer. Understand how the tilt function works to get the best results from your KitchenAid stand mixer.

  • Locate the locking lever on the side of the stand mixer. The locking lever is a small knob with an image of the mixer with the head lowered in the mixing position on one side and an image of the mixer with the head lifted on the other side.

  • Push the lever toward the image of the mixer with the lifted head.

  • Raise the mixer head by pulling up on the motor area, lifting the head up toward the ceiling to secure it in the tilted position.

  • Lower the mixing head by pushing it down into place until it stops. Push the locking lever toward the image of the mixer with the head lowered. Ensure the lock is secure before using the mixer.
