How to Start Your Windows Computer in DOS
Installation instructions for some DOS games and other applications require you to boot to MS-DOS. Troubleshooting instructions may also require this.

Click Start.

Click Shut Down.

Click Restart in MS-DOS mode.

Click OK.

Tips & Warnings
Type "exit" and press Enter to return to Windows 95 or 98 from MS-DOS.
You'll also find MS-DOS Prompt in your list of programs accessed from the Start menu. For many purposes, you can run MS-DOS from within Windows without having to reboot.

You can also go to command prompt. 1. Click on start, click on Run 2. Type command and click OK (for windows 95/98)or Type cmd and click OK (for windows NT/2000/XP). Press Alt + Enter to view command window in Full Screen mode. To return back, type exit and press 'Enter' key. -

With Win98 or Me, hold down the left Ctrl key as you boot. That takes you to the Windows (98)(Me) Start-up menu; select #5 (Command Prompt Only) and enter. -

If the computer is off, turn it on and start tapping the F8 key. That should take you to a Windows 9X Start-Up Menu. Select #5, Command Prompt Only. Note: the mouse does not work here; use the arrow and enter keys.
