How to Repair Eyelashes

How to Repair Eyelashes thumbnail
Applying mascara infused with strengthening ingredients can assist eyelash regrowth.

Long, lustrous eyelashes are considered by some to be a sign of beauty and health. If you have thin, broken, uneven and sparse eyelashes, there may be other causes than just health issues. Curling, dying and harsh makeup can destroy healthy eyelashes. Fortunately, there are eyelash treatments on the market that can heal, assist and enhance eyelashes. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Use an eyelash repair treatment at night. Most eyelash treatments recommend applying the product before bed. When washing your face, always blot your eyes dry gently, as grinding and scrubbing them with a towel can cause breakage and damage to the eyelashes. Once your face is washed, apply an eyelash repair serum or eyelash conditioner that is designed to repair and strengthen eyelashes and cell growth.

    • 2

Apply a mascara that contains ingredients that promote eyelash protection and repair. During the day, these types of mascaras help retain moisture and prevent damage to the eyelashes, as well as build strength to the new hair growth cells in the lashes. Skip using regular mascaras; they may not contain ingredients that help promote healthy eyelashes.

    • 3

Drink plenty of water and take a daily vitamin containing high amounts of vitamins A, E and B6. These vitamins aid in hair regrowth. Hydrating with water helps with overall health and also aids in keeping hair and eyelashes from drying out and becoming brittle.

    • 4

Choose an oil -- such as natural bay and birch oils, grapefruit oils and olive oil -- and apply them to the eyelashes with a clean applicator. These types of oils can be purchased over the counter at a pharmacy or at the grocery store.

    • 5

Do not wear makeup or regular mascara for several weeks. While treating the eyelashes, using makeup around or on the eye (including the eyelashes) can conflict with the treatment and dry the eyelashes out, thereby negating the intention of the treatment. If you must wear something on your eyelashes, apply a thin coat of olive oil to them to make them shiny. Most eyelash treatments take up to a month.

Tips & Warnings

  • If any natural oil or serum irritates your eye, discontinue use of the product and ask a doctor for other recommendations.
