How to Grow Dracaena Fragrans

Dracaena fragrans, also known as corn plants, are houseplants that appear as if they have come straight from the tropics. This tall indoor plant can reach up to 10 feet in height and produces large, arching leaves from a cane stem. Mature corn plants can produce leaves up to 1 1/2 feet long. Although corn plants need the right amount of water and light to grow well, they are typically easy plants to maintain in your home. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Place your corn plant in a place that receives bright but indirect light. Do not place in direct sunlight or near a window. Corn plants can tolerate low levels of light better than too much direct light.

    • 2

Keep your corn plants in a place where the daytime temperatures range between 60 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit. It is OK for temperatures to drop 10 degrees in the evening.

    • 3

Water your corn plant only when the soil is dry. Water it thoroughly with lukewarm water. Do not water with cold water.

    • 4

Give the plant liquid foliage plant fertilizer monthly during the spring and summer only.

    • 5

Cut back bare and long stems to help promote new leaf growth.
