How to Cancel AOL & Keep the Email Address
At one time, AOL only offered paid membership options. However, AOL now offers a free plan in addition to paid dial-up and premium high-speed subscriptions. If you have a paid AOL subscription, you can cancel your paid AOL service and convert it to a free AOL account. By converting your paid subscription to a free account, you can keep your AOL email address.

Go to the AOL My Account home page (see Resources).

Enter your AOL email address and password and click the "Sign In" button.

Enter the answer to the security question and click the "Continue" button.

Select the "Manage My Subscriptions" option.

Click the "Cancel Billing" link.

Select a reason for cancellation from the drop-down menu. Click the "Cancel My Billing" button. Your AOL account will automatically convert to a free AOL account. AOL will send a cancellation confirmation after you click the "Cancel My Billing" button.

Tips & Warnings
After canceling your paid AOL subscription, you can access your same AOL email account through the free AOL Online portal (see Resources). Click the "Mail" icon and enter your AOL username and password to access your email account.
