How to Block Websites With the Linksys WRT310
You have many choices when it comes to blocking websites on a computer, and almost all of them can be circumvented. If you block a website in a Web browser, for example, someone can view the website simply by using another browser. To prevent most circumvention efforts, you may want to try blocking a website using your wireless router. The Linksys WRT310 allows you to define an access policy that blocks the website(s) of your choice by URL or keyword.

1
Open a Web browser and enter "162.168.1.1" in the address bar at the top of the screen. Press "Enter." If you used the "Basic Setup" screen to change the IP address of the WRT310 when you originally configured it, use the address that you selected at that time instead.
-
2
Enter the administrator log-in credentials for your router. If you never changed these credentials, leave the "User Name" field empty and enter the password "admin." This brings you to the "Basic Setup" screen for your router.
-
-
3
Click the "Access Restrictions" tab at the top of the window.
-
4
Click the "Access Policy" drop-down menu and select the first number that does not have a name next to it.
-
5
Click the "Enter Policy Name" field and type a name for the access policy.
-
6
Click the "Edit List" button. In the window that appears, type the IP address of each computer that the access policy should apply to. To find the IP address of a computer, open the Windows Command Prompt on that computer and type "ipconfig." Click "Save Settings" when you are finished.
-
7
Use the "Schedule" section of the page to define the times in which the access policy should be in effect. By default, new access policies are always active.
-
8
Use the fields next to "Website Blocking by URL Address" to enter the address of each website that you want to block. If you want to block more than four websites, create multiple access policies. You can also block websites by objectionable keywords using the "Website Blocking by Keyword" section.
-
9
Click the "Add" button to save the access policy, and then click the "Save Settings" button at the bottom of the page.
