Shoes can easily become marked, scuffed and even dented when they are worn day-in and day-out. Shoes do best with proper daily care; however, problem areas can be fixed after an issue arises. A dent in a shoe is created when the shoe is banged or otherwise scuffed along a hard surface, such as a sidewalk, wall or desk. While dent removal can take some time and effort, it can be accomplished at home.

Things You'll Need

  • Leather gel
  • Hairdryer
  • Newspaper
  • Soap
  • Water
  • Dry, clean cloths

Clean the shoe with soap and water to remove all dust, dirt and debris. Dry the shoe off with a clean towel and place on a clean surface.

Stuff the shoe with newspapers so that the dent bulges out a bit.

Cover the area in a gel lubricant that is safe for leather. You can find such gels at a shoe store that carries high-end leather shoes.

Aim a hairdryer on low heat directly at the dent mark. Do not point in the same spot for more than 30 seconds at a time. Move the hairdryer back and forth across the area for 3 to 5 minutes or until the gel has dried.

Allow the shoes to sit for 24 hours in their current condition.

Remove the newspapers and wear the shoes.
