  • Craft glue

Use marshmallows to make a mini-igloo.

Marshmallow igloos are a winter craft children can make at home or at school. Children will have a blast constructing these little igloos from mini marshmallows, but be sure to provide a few extra marshmallows, as a few may find their way into little bellies in the process. Set the igloos on top of a table for a winter centerpiece or holiday decoration.

Step 1

Cut the top portion off of a foam cup so all that is left is 4 to 5 inches at the bottom.

Step 2

Turn the remaining bottom portion of the cup upside down and cut a small arched section out of one side. The solid bottom of the cup will serve as the igloo's roof and the cut-out section as the igloo's door.

Step 3

Apply craft glue to the bottom of your igloo around the rim of the cup and press it down into the center of your sheet of white craft foam, with the roof of the igloo pointing up.

Step 4

Paint a thin layer of white craft glue all over the cup. Press mini marshmallows into the glue, starting with a single layer at the bottom. They should be touching but not overlapping.

Step 5

Add a second layer of marshmallows on top of the first in basic brick pattern, so the edges are staggered. Continue adding more layers in this same manner.

Step 6

Cut the craft foam into a smaller circle around the igloo to form a round platform.

Step 7

Use a paintbrush to make very thin trails of craft glue around the craft foam that the igloo is sitting on, and sprinkle on your choice of glitter or artificial snow.

Tip

Glue toy people or figures of cold-weather animals, such as penguins, to the craft foam platform.

Let younger children glue the marshmallows wherever they want on the igloo. Don't worry about placing them in a brick pattern.

Warning

Watch over small children who may try to eat marshmallows after they are dipped in glue.

Use nontoxic glue just in case small children succeed at eating the marshmallows.
