Instructions

    • 1

Pour about an inch of beer into the jar.

    • 2

Poke a tiny hole in one corner of the plastic food bag with the toothpick. The hole needs to be large enough for the fruit flies to detect the beer and crawl through, yet not so large that they will be able to find their way back out again.

    • 3

Position the bag over the top of the jar with the hole suspended about an inch above the surface of the beer.

    • 4

Secure the bag to the top of the jar with the rubber band.

    • 5

Place the trap on the kitchen counter or other surface near the fruit flies. The smell of the beer attracts the fruit flies, which can crawl down through the hole in the bag but not crawl back out.

    • 6

Empty and wash out the jar and replace the beer every three to four days to continue trapping fruit flies. Keep the trap on the counter as long as you continue to see fruit flies.
