How to Add Personal Buddy Icons to AIM
AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) is a predominant instant messaging service that was opened to AOL subscribers in 1996 and to the rest of the world in 1997. Since then it has come to include bonus features like multi-player gaming, webcam chat and buddy icons. When chatting with a buddy from your buddy list, the dialog window features a buddy icon that identifies your buddy. After its inception, buddy icons became a mode of expression as well as a medium for humor among many chatters.

Tips & Warnings
Programs like GIFNinja, Gic, and Picasion can make a sequence of pictures into a "slideshow" .gif file, which can also be uploaded as a buddy icon. Making an intricate .gif that tells a story or joke can be impressive to friends.
