How to Activate an iPhone 3G 3.1.2

You must activate your iPhone before you can make phone calls.

The Apple iPhone 3G must be activated before you can make or receive calls and text messages, regardless of which software version it is running. Before you activate your iPhone 3.1.2, you can use a Wi-Fi network if one is available, but you will not be able to use the 3G network. Activating your iPhone takes only a few minutes, and you can run through the steps at any time.

Instructions

1. Call or visit your cell phone provider and select a service plan for your iPhone. If you are calling, you will need to use a phone other than your iPhone.

2. Provide the proper information to your cell phone provider regarding your iPhone. Your provider will need to link your iPhone to your account and will ask your iPhone's IMEI number (International Mobile Equipment Identity) and serial number. Both of the numbers are located on the back of your iPhone toward the bottom.

3. Wait for a text message to appear that says: "This iPhone has been activated." You may now use your iPhone to make calls and send text messages.
