1
Lay your round tablecloth out on a flat surface like the floor. Use your hand to completely flatten out the tablecloth; make sure there are no wrinkles or folds. Wrinkles or folds may skew your measurements.
-
2
Place one end of a tape measure along the outer edge of the tablecloth.

3
Stretch the tape measure across the center of the tablecloth until you reach the outer edge again. Read the inch measurement on the tape measure. This is the measurement of the diameter of your tablecloth. If none of the tablecloth is hanging over the edge, this is also the measurement of the largest possible table you can use the tablecloth with.

Multiply the total number of inches you want the tablecloth to hang over the table by 2. For example, if you want your tablecloth to hang 2 inches over the edge of the table, multiply 2 by 2, which gives you 4 inches. Subtract this number from the diameter of the tablecloth. For example, if the tablecloth is 20 inches, 20 minus 4 equals 16 inches. You would need a 16-inch table to allow the tablecloth to hang over the edge by 2 inches on all sides.
