How to Setup a New Address with the USPS Service
When moving across town or to a different state, it is important to remember to change your address with the United States Postal Service. The USPS will forward your mail to your new address. You can file for a permanent or temporary address change, and changing your address with the USPS is easy. You can file for an address change at any post office or online.

1
Visit the USPS website and confirm the new address where you are moving. The USPS can give you the recommended address format so that you receive your mail quickly and efficiently. They will also give you the zip +4 code for the new address, which can help speed the mail delivery time.

2
Make a list of people that you want to notify of your new address. To help with this process, record addresses from mail received for a couple of months. Most bills will have a change of address box; make sure you fill that area out.

3
File the change of address with the USPS. This will allow for forwarding of your mail, and will notify companies that belong to the National Change of Address Service of the change. You can do this step online or at the post office. As of April 2011, the USPS charges a fee of $1 for fraud reduction. The paper form found at the USPS building is free. Do this four to six weeks before you move.

Notify those on your contact list of your new address. Add friends, clubs, and organizations of which you belong. Also check forwarded mail -- it will have a yellow sticker -- and notify those senders of your new address.
