How to Find People on Messenger

Instant messaging applications such as Yahoo! Messenger and MSN Messenger allow users to chat with friends and family, store contacts and search for people to add to their messenger "buddy list." With millions of people using instant messaging, it can be difficult to locate a specific individual. By knowing the person's full name, email address and location, you can perform searches for friends and family members you have not spoke to for a long time.

  1. Yahoo! Messenger

      Go to Yahoo! Pulse and click the "Sign In" tab on the top-left corner.

      Sign in with your Yahoo! ID and password and click "Sign In."

      Click on the "Find People" tab located across the top left of the webpage. Type in the person's first and last name. You can also type in the email address and press "Enter" or click the magnifying glass to the right of the search bar.

      Click on the person's name to see a profile about them, including age, gender and location.

    MSN Messenger

      Open the MSN Messenger software on your computer and log into your account.

      Locate and click the "Contacts" tab in the toolbar across the top of the webpage. Click the "Search for a Contact" option from the drop-down menu.

      Fill in any known information, such as first and last name, MSN username and email, to narrow your search.

      Click "Search" to being your inquiry. Once the computer comes back with a list of possible people, select the person you wish to add and click "Add Contact."
