Open Internet Explorer. By default, an icon for Microsoft's browser exists on your desktop. Double-click it to open. Internet Explorer can also be accessed by clicking "Start" and "All Programs."

Click the "Help" button on the Internet Explorer menu bar at the top of the screen.

Click "About Internet Explorer." If you have Internet Explorer version 7 on your computer, the version number listed in the "About Internet Explorer" box begins with "7." If you have version 8, for example, that number would instead begin with "8."
