How to Check Your DPS Without a Meter

"DPS" is the measure of how much damage a player does per second in a game. Most-often used in MMORPGs such as "World of Warcraft" and "Rift," DPS numbers give players a starting point from which they can improve. Though addons exist to automatically calculate DPS, some players cannot run them due to performance issues and must parse the data from their combat logs.

Instructions

    • 1

Log in to your game of choice and enable combat logging. Use your damaging abilities on a target for exactly one minute, then disable the combat log. Log out of the game and close the game client.

    • 2

Navigate to the game's install directory and locate the combat log .TXT file. Double-click to open the file, then find the appropriate combat information as indicated by the timestamps.

    • 3

Use a calculator to parse the information, adding each instance of damage and totaling the numbers. Divide by 60 to determine your DPS.

Tips & Warnings

  • Each game reports damage differently. View the game's help center to determine where the combat log is located and how to enable it.

  • For a more accurate DPS result, repeat the test and average all of the DPS numbers.
