How to Look at a stock's Current Price Per Share

When you see a company's stock price, that price indicates how much each individual share is worth. The market cap amount indicates how much all outstanding shares are worth when combined together and multiplied by the stock price. When you are watching TV or surfing the Internet and see a company's stock, you're most likely seeing the price per share. You can find a specific company's price per share through a search engine, the company's own website or a stock reporting website.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit the company's homepage. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click "Investor Relations." The current stock quote will be displayed at the top of the page. The price listed is the price per share. Not all websites have an "Investor relations" link, but most should, especially major companies. Stock prices may be 15 to 20 minutes behind real time.

    • 2

Visit a real-time stock website, such as Nasdaq.com, MarketWatch.com and DailyFinance.com. You can type in either the name of the company or the company's stock symbol in the "Search" box. Real-time websites constantly update the stock price, so you may see it fluctuate while you're looking at it.

    • 3

Type the company's stock symbol into a search engine. Most major search engines show real-time quotes as the first search result when you search a stock symbol.
