How to Release Your Pet on "WoW"

Maybe your World of Warcraft pet isn't as vicious as you'd like it to be.

The hunter class in World of Warcraft comes with a bonus that other classes lack: the ability to keep combat pets. These pets add to a hunter's DPS -- damage per second -- and make playing solo a more viable option. Different types of pets have different advantages. If you decide that your current pet no longer pulls its weight, or if you just want to make space for a new creature, release your pet and tame a new one.

Instructions

    • 1

Sign in to your WoW account and load your hunter toon.

    • 2

Call the pet that you want to dismiss.

    • 3

Right-click the pet's icon at the top of the screen. It should be next to the health bar of your active hunter toon.

    • 4

Click "Abandon" from the drop-down list of options. A box will pop up asking if you're sure you want to permanently abandon your pet.

    • 5

Click "Okay." Your pet will fade away.

Tips & Warnings

  • If your pet isn't active, visit the stable master at one of your faction's major cities, such as Stormwind for Alliance (See References 2) or Undercity for the Horde (See References 3).

  • Once you abandon your pet, you can never summon it again.
