Spray paints are either oil or water based and so are easy enough to remove

Whether you are spraying a repair on your car or decorating a wall, there is a possibility of getting paint on your shoes. If you catch it early enough the paint is easy to remove, but if it dries the task becomes more difficult. Spray paint is the same as regular paint in its chemical makeup and can be removed in the same fashion.

Step 1

Wipe the area with a damp cloth as soon as the paint gets on the shoe. When the paint is still wet, it is very simple to remove and will not require any chemicals. Be careful not to rub the paint into the shoe fibers.

Step 2

Apply some paint thinner to a dry cloth and gently rub the affected area. This will soften the paint. Only use a little paint thinner at a time to ensure the chemical does not ruin the shoe.

Step 3

Clean the paint off using a solvent such as turpentine or pure alcohol. Apply some of the solvent to a dry cloth and wipe away the paint. This will be easier if the area has already been treated with paint thinner.
