How to Create a Regedit

"Regedit" is the term used in Windows Search and the "Run" tool to access the Windows Registry Editor. With the Registry Editor, administrative users are able to change specific settings related to the computer, users, installed programs, and system utilities. Before changes are made to a computer's Registry however, it is important that its current state is backed up. Creating a Regedit backup can prevent your computer from experiencing problems if there is a problem with any changes you make.

Go to the Start menu, click "Run," type "Regedit" into the search box, and then click "OK." Alternatively, in Windows 7 and Vista "Regedit" can be typed in the search box within the Start menu. The Windows Registry Editor dialog box will now open up onscreen.
