How to Replace the Filter in an Aprilaire Humidifier

Aprilaire humidifiers are whole-house humidifiers for use during the heating season. Heaters suck humidity out of the air, which can be damaging if you live in a dry climate. Dry skin, sore throats and elevated asthma and allergy levels are all caused by dry air, according to Aprilaire. A whole-househumidifier from Aprilaire prevents your home's air from drying out. The Aprilaire air filters, called water panel evaporators, need changing once a year to keep the humidifier running efficiently.

  • Turn the Aprilaire humidifier off and turn off the water supply. Switch the humidifier to the SUMMER position.

  • Press the tabs on the front cover and pull the cover toward you and off the base unit.

  • Pull the plastic feed tube from the distribution tray on the top of the water panel evaporator. Hold the water panel evaporator by the top and tip it out of the unit.

  • Pull the water panel evaporator out of the scale-control insert. Rinse the insert off in running water to remove any calcium deposits.

  • Place a new water panel evaporator into the scale-control insert. Insert it with the colored spot at the top and snap the distribution tray back into the humidifier. Put the cover back on the Aprilaire humidifier.
