Jayco Tent Trailer Setup Instructions

Jayco Tent Trailer Setup Instructions thumbnail
Tent trailers, being lighter, are much easier to tow.

Based in Middlebury, Ind., Jayco was founded in 1967 by Jay Bontrager. Jayco employs 1,700 people and is the third largest recreational vehicle manufacturer in the world today producing travel trailers and fold-down campers. Tent trailers, also called pop-up campers, make up the largest portion of Jayco's business because they are lightweight and can be towed by many vehicles. Consisting of a solid box a little more than two feet deep and ranging in size from 15 feet to 23 feet, Jayco's tent trailers expand when the roof is raised via a crank handle exposing canvas sides.

Instructions

    • 1

Look over the campsite to determine the most level spot to place the Jayco tent trailer. Back the trailer onto the site, steering clear of any obstacles that might be in your way.

    • 2

Determine if the trailer is level from side to side by placing a carpenter's level on the tongue of the trailer. If the trailer is not level, place a leveling block under the tire on the low side. Pull the camper up onto the leveling block using your vehicle.

    • 3

Place stop blocks directly in front of and behind each trailer tire. This will prevent the Jayco from moving once it is disconnected from the vehicle.

    • 4

Disconnect the Jayco tent trailer from the vehicle by first unplugging all trailer wires connected to the vehicle and disconnecting the towing safety chains. Raise the trailer up off the hitch of the vehicle by turning the Jayco crank in a clockwise direction with your hand. Drive your vehicle away from the trailer.

    • 5

Use the level to determine if the trailer is level from front to back by placing the level on the tongue of the trailer. If the trailer is not level from front to back, use the tongue crank handle to adjust as needed. Turning the crank handle clockwise will raise the front of the trailer and turning it counterclockwise will lower it.

    • 6

Lower the four jack supports on the underside of the Jayco in each of the four corners. Use your hands to swing the supports toward the ground. Continue lowering each support until they contact the ground.

    • 7

Disconnect the brackets holding the Jayco's roof in place by using your hands to unlatch them. There are four brackets located on the sides of the trailer, one in each corner. Insert the separate crank handle into the matching receptacle located next to the propane tank on the front side of the trailer. Crank the handle in a clockwise motion until the roof is in its raised position.

    • 8

Pull each bed and attached canvas canopy, located on both ends of the Jayco, out away from the trailer. Secure the beds by installing the accompanying bed support poles into the brackets on the underside of each bed. Secure the bottom of the canvas bed canopies to each bed using the attached bungee cords.

    • 9

Lower the Jayco's entry door from the roof inside the trailer by twisting the supports holding it in place. Fold the canvas surrounding the door around the door's frame, snapping it in place.

    • 10

Locate the internal canopy support poles. Insert them into the brackets over each bed using your hands. The supports will keep the canopies up off of the beds. There is one support pole per bed.
