How to Remove AV Security Suite in XP

The "AV Security Suite" is a malware program that hijacks your computer and reports that the computer has multiple viruses. The software hijacks your computer, because it does not let you continue and run your computer normally without purchasing the software. To remove this software, you must boot Windows XP to "Safe Mode" and remove the software from your hard drive and clear the entries in the registry.

      Reboot the computer. When you see the Windows XP splash screen, press "F8" several times until the boot option menu appears. Use the arrow keys to choose "Safe Mode with Networking" from the boot menu.

      Press "Ctrl+Alt+Del" and click "Task Manager" to open the utility that displays all processes. Right-click the "AV Security" process and select "End Task." This stops the Windows service from running in the background.

      Click the Windows "Start" button and select "Run." In the command text box, type "regedit" and press "Enter." This opens your registry editor. Double-click "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" to view a list of options in the left panel. Click "SOFTWARE," then right-click "Avsoft." Select "Delete" to delete the section entry from the registry.

      Click the Windows "Start" button and select "Run." Type "%UserProfile%\Local Settings\Application Data" to open the Windows Explorer that points to the "Application" directory.

      Right-click the "Avsoft" directory and the "Avsoft.exe" file displayed in the "Application Data" directory. Reboot the computer for the changes to take effect.
