Skype for Mac OS X allows you to call other phones and mobiles, place voice and video calls with other users, send SMS text messages and send instant messages. When you install Skype on Mac OS X, it opens by default when you sign in to your user account. If you want to prevent Skype from loading upon startup, you can do so in the System Preferences.

      Click the "Apple Menu" icon located in top-left corner and select "System Preferences."

      Click the "Accounts" icon under the "System" section.

    • 3

      Click the account name of the user you want to prevent Skype from loading on startup.

    • 4

      Click the "Login Items" tab. Select "Skype" located in the list of login items.

    • 5

      Click the "-" button to delete Skype from the list and disable it from loading on startup.
