How to Apply for Indian Grants
To apply for an American Indian grant from the federal government, you must be a tribal member of a recognized tribe or be of American Indian descent. There are many types of grants available, which can be used to pay for college or start a small business. Some grants are exclusive to members of certain tribes. Getting approved for a federal grant is not always easy but there are plenty of opportunities available for qualified applicants.

Tips & Warnings
Some purposes of the grants are targeted to specific goals: vocational training, tribal housing, food distribution on tribal lands, child and elderly assistance, drug and alcohol assistance, and fish, game and wildlife protection on tribal lands.
Unlike loans, grants do not have to be paid back. However, the money from the grants is allocated to a specific purpose, such as education or community development. If the money is not used for that purpose then it must be paid back.
Native Hawaiians, Alaskan Inuit and Eskimos are eligible for the American Indian grants as well.
