How to Get Breakdancing Sponsors

How to Get Breakdancing Sponsors thumbnail
Breakdancing requires exceptional focus and physical control.

Breakdancing forms one of the primary elements of hip hop culture. Originated in the Bronx borough of New York City, the form has become an international phenomenon that has lasted for decades. Breakdancers perform in exhibitions and competitions around the world, largely for a youth market. Many companies want access to this market and regularly sponsor breakdancers and breakdancing crews. Acquiring sponsorship requires follow-through and a certain amount of tenacity, but with hard work, networking and luck, you can secure breakdancing sponsors.

Instructions

    • 1

Practice your moves at every opportunity. If you perfect your skills, you will perform at the top of your ability when the opportunity arises, and you never know which performance may lead to sponsorship.

    • 2

Perform as often as possible. The practice of working with and improvising in front of a live audience will hone your skills, not just as a dancer but as a performer as well. Dancers entertain and communication is a crucial part of entertaining an audience.

    • 3

Enter breakdancing competitions. Proving yourself against your peers will provide you with the challenge you need to continually improve. You can also use these competitions to network with fellow dancers and potential sponsors.

    • 4

Organize breakdancing exhibitions. These events make excellent venues for displaying your skills for potential sponsors. If you organize the exhibition, you can invite anyone to attend, including representatives from potential sponsors.

    • 5

Compile video from every performance. You never know which performance will feature your best, newest or most original moves. Make a demo video to show to potential sponsors.

    • 6

Create an online presence with a website, and link it to all social networking sites. This will help your audience and peers stay informed of your progress and where they can see you perform. Increasing your visibility will help you reach a larger number of people. Sponsors only are interested in artists because they can have access to the their audience.

    • 7

Print and wear clothing bearing your name or your breakdancing crew's name. Every second that an audience watches you perform wearing this apparel represents free advertising. If fans can look at you and immediately know your name, they can more easily remember you and discover more about you online.

    • 8

Make a list of potential sponsors. Search the Internet for companies currently sponsoring breakdancing events, crews and individual dancers. Also consider companies that would want to reach breakdancing fans. This includes youth and hip hop-oriented products like clothing companies, video game manufacturers, electronics manufacturers, record labels and production companies.

    • 9

Contact the sponsors directly. Send a written request for sponsorship and tell them what you can offer them in exchange. Invite them to competitions and exhibitions to see for themselves.

Tips & Warnings

  • Persistence often wins over talent or luck. Keep working hard and networking, develop your talents and you will see results.
