Be careful not to damage your wooden stairs when removing the gum.

Tape gum is a type of bubble gum that can harden if you leave it on your wood floor. When this happens, it can be tough to remove. Because the glue is sticky, your best bet is to harden it until it becomes brittle enough to chip off the floor. Remove the gum as soon as you notice it to prevent it from getting covered in dirt and debris. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Pull off as much of the gum as possible with a pair of tweezers.

    • 2

Place an ice cube over the gum until it is completely hard.

    • 3

Pry the glue off with a plastic knife. Do not use metal as it will scratch the wooden stairs and ruin it.

    • 4

Dip a cloth in white vinegar until it is just slightly damp if the gum residue is still visible. Rub the cloth over the tape gum on the stairs. Work until it is dissolved, or until it is loosened from the floor.

    • 5

Pry the tape gum off with a plastic knife.

    • 6

Rinse the wood floor with clear water and dry it with a clean cloth. Do not soak the wood and don't leave it wet, as it can warp.
