How to Make Picture Pillowcases

Pillowcases are not only practical, they're decorative as well. Store-bought pillowcases can vary greatly in patterns, sizes, colors and materials. However, one element that they'll always lack is personalized photos of your family and friends. You can add pictures to any cloth material -- including pillowcases -- with a few basic materials.

Things You'll Need

  • Iron-on transfer paper
  • Pillowcase
  • Printer
  • Iron
  • Scissors
  • Open your word processing program. Insert a photo into your document. Resize it, rotate it or alter it in any other way you wish.

  • Load the iron-on paper into your printer. Make sure the proper side of the printing paper is facing down in your tray. The paper should indicate which side is the printable side.

  • Navigate back to your word processing program. Make your picture a mirror image by selecting the "Flip" option. Print the picture by hitting "Ctrl+P."

  • Lay your pillowcase flat on the ironing board, making sure there are no wrinkles in it. Turn your iron on and let it warm up.

  • Lay your picture, face down, onto the area of the pillowcase that you want to apply it to. Iron over the picture slowly, making sure to press down firmly. After several minutes of ironing, slowly peel the paper away from the pillowcase.

Tips & Warnings

  • Put several pictures on a single pillowcase to make a collage.
  • When making personalized pillowcases, it is best to use white cloth, as the photos tend to show up the best on white materials.
  • Be aware that the areas on which the photos are placed on your pillowcase may be a bit stiff.
