How to Cut a Pear Fan
Whether you're making a fresh salad or just want a new way to spice up your fruit plate, making a design with your pears is a nice way to go. By slicing the pear a specific way, you can make it form a fan pattern, which makes the plate look more appealing and stand out from other meals. Making the pear into a fan shape takes about 5 minutes at the most, and your meal will look great. Does this Spark an idea?

Place the pear on the cutting board. Slice the pear in half vertically using the paring knife.

Carve out the core from the pear with the melon baller. Remove the base and the stem with a paring knife if you don't want them on the plate.

Flip the pear over so the cut side is touching the cutting board. Place the tip of the paring knife approximately 1/4 inch away from the top of the pear. Cut multiple vertical strips, about 1/8-inch thick, making sure not to slice through the top 1/4 inch of the pear. Repeat for the remaining half of the pear.

Place the pears on the plate. Fan out the bottom of the pear so that the layers stack evenly over each other, exposing the inside of the pear in the process. The slices will be held together by the uncut top 1/4 inch of each pear half.
