How to See Progress of Defrag in Vista

If your Windows Vista computer has slowed down a lot, you may find it necessary to defrag the hard drive. Disk defragmenting clears unused or empty space and relocates data on your hard drive. This in turn frees up space on your disk and optimizes the drive in general. Disk defragmentation then speeds up your drive and increases performance. When you start the process, you will be able to watch the process bar to see how complete the task is.

Instructions

    • 1

Click "Start," then "All Programs," then "Accessories" and then "System Tools."

    • 2

    • 3

Enter your administration password to confirm and press "Enter."

    • 4

Click "Defragment Now." You will now be able to see the defragmenting process live.
