1
Spray weed killer around the edges of your pool. The weed killer will dry the weeds and make them easier to pull. Do not spray weed killer if you have a grass lawn around your pool. It will kill the grass. The weeds tend to grow through the cracks of concrete or through a rock garden.

2
Trim any bushes or shrubs you have around the area of the pool. Use hedge clippers to make the proper adjustments. Don't cut them too short or else the plant can turn brown in the sun. Use a rake to turn any soil near areas in which you wish to plant new shrubbery or plants.

Cut the grass around the pool area using a basic stand-behind lawn mower. Don't get too close to the pool wall because you may damage it. Use a weed trimmer to trim the grass and weeds closest to the pool wall. Take this opportunity to scatter some grass seed in areas where the lawn appears bare.

Rake the garden rocks to turn them and re-level the surface. Add a few more bags of new garden rocks around the edges of the pool if you've previously used rocks in the area. Add some different colors into the mix for a new look. Spray the rocks with a garden hose to wash away surface dirt from the winter. This will give the rock garden a finished look. Add some larger decorative stones for a more elegant look to the area.
