How to Plant Tiger Eye Flowers
Tiger eye flowers (Rudbeckia "TigerEye") are a hybrid variety of Gloriosa daisy family and are hardy perennials in U.S. Department of Agriculture zones 3 to 9. They reach a height of about 24 inches, with yellow flowers that span from 6 to 9 inches wide. Tiger eye flowers make excellent cut flowers. They also attract bees and butterflies, and if you have a deer in your area, tiger eye flowers are deer resistant also. Tiger eye flowers are usually available for planting only as seed and are best planted indoors about 10 weeks before the last expected spring frost. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions

1
Sow tiger eye flower seeds 1/8 inch deep in planting trays filled with potting soil labeled for starting seeds. Plant one seed per section.
-
2
Moisten the soil and keep it moist at all times. The soil should not be saturated, just moist.
-
-
3
Set the planting tray in an area that is warm and has plenty of indirect light. A space kept at room temperature, around 70 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit, is ideal. Placing the tray near a window but not directly in the sun works well.
-
4
Select an outdoor planting location in full sun, which is an area with a minimum of six hours of direct sunlight. Tiger eye flowers thrive in full sun, although they will tolerate a location with only four to six hours of sunlight.
-
5
Loosen the soil with a tiller, shovel or hoe approximately 8 inches deep. If the soil contains a lot of clay, amend it with 3 or 4 inches of compost or another organic material. Tiger eye flowers tolerate almost any type of soil, provided it drains water well.
-
6
Transplant the seedlings outdoors after the last frost, spacing them 18 to 24 inches apart.
-
7
Water tiger eye flower transplants well with about 1 inch of water. Continue to water them regularly the first year, about one to three times per week. This will enable the tiger eye flowers to develop deep root systems.
