A winning political business card is an important part of any campaign.

If you are a running for office, your political card is the first impression many voters will have of you. That is why it is so important to create a professional looking campaign card. Whether you hire a printer or create the cards yourself, there are a few steps to follow to create a winning political business card.

Instructions

    • 1

Review election laws. Rules on campaign advertising vary among states. Check with the supervisor of elections in your community to find out the guidelines for campaign cards. There are disclaimers that must be included, so review the exact wording you must use on your card before you have them printed.

If you plan to include a photograph on your campaign card, have a professional photo taken. You do not want to include a blurry or dark photo, as it creates an unprofessional image. Keep in mind that black-and-white printing is cheaper than color. If you plan to use a full-color photo, ask your printer ahead of time about pricing. In addition, find out the jpeg size requirements your printer or card designer will need.

Write card text. You want your name to be big and bold. Make sure it is printed on the card exactly as it will appear on the election ballot. If you have a campaign tag line that you would like to use in all your ads, include that on your card. Keep it short and to the point. Too much information is just that - too much. Voters likely will not read small print on a campaign card. Save additional text and points you would like to make for a campaign letter or other advertising materials. If you have a few short points you would like to include, consider printing a two-sided card and adding the additional text on the back side.

Design the card. You can either design the card yourself, use a template, or enlist the services of a professional printer. Political business card printing services are very reasonably priced, and the price is less per card the more you order. Choose a font that is easily read and stick to the same campaign colors as you use on any signs or other advertising materials.

Proofread your card and ask a couple of other people you trust, including someone with above-average English skills, to review it. Make sure your spelling is correct and the card makes sense to the general public. Even if you hire a card designer or printer, insist on proofreading the card before it is printed.
