How to Text a Sleeping Face

If you have a text-messaging plan on your phone, you may go well into the night texting back and forth to someone. If you're tired of texting and the other person won't leave you alone, you can drop a subtle hint by texting back with a sleeping emoticon. The sleeping emoticon is made of four symbols, so it doesn't require a lot of effort to send one.

  • Open a text message on your phone, and choose the person you wish to send the emoticon to.

  • Open the "Symbols" section. Most phones have a separate symbols section that lets you choose from a variety of different symbols. You may also be able to click "Alt" or "Secondary" to open a list of symbols if you're using an onscreen keyboard.

  • Insert the "(" symbol followed by "-" (without the quotation marks or spaces).

  • Press the space button on your phone. Insert the "-" and ")" symbol (without the quotation marks and spaces). The emoticon should appear as "(- -)." Send the message.
