How to Core & Seed a Tomato
When preparing fresh tomatoes for cooking, the prep work often entails coring and seeding before adding them to a recipe. You can streamline the process by removing cores and seeds at the same time. Things You'll Need
- Large metal strainer
- Small bowl
- Colander
- Cutting board
- Paring knife
- Melon baller
- Bowl

Set the strainer over the bowl.

Place the whole tomatoes into the colander and wash them under cool, running water.

Use a cutting board. Cut off the top 1/2 inch of the tomato. Discard the top.

Scoop out the core and seeds with the melon baller. Scrape the entire interior of the tomato clean with the melon baller.

Place the inner tomato flesh you removed into the metal strainer. Push on the flesh to force out the tomato juice. The seeds and core will stay on top of the strainer. Discard them.

Place the cored and seeded whole tomato in the bowl.
