How to Change a BMX Bike Rim
BMX bikes were introduced by the Schwinn Bicycle Corporation in 1963 to fill the need for bike riders who wanted to race on all types of terrain, including off-road trails, streets and every type of course in between. By 1970, BMX bikes were being made of more durable and lightweight materials such as aluminum alloys and had a standard wheel size of 20 inches. This combination made the bikes easier to ride and race, but it also made the rims more susceptible to damage. By changing your own rims you can get the look you want and save money at the same time.

Lay the new rim on top of the old rim so that the holes for the valves are all lined up. Use the making tape or duct tape secure the new rim to the old rim in place at four separate points around the rims.

Start removing the spokes one at a time and transfer them to the new rim. Do this until all the spokes are taken from the old rim and placed onto the new rim.

5
Check to make sure all the spokes are removed from the old rim and placed into the new rim. Remove the tape. The new rim should be securely in place and the old rim will just fall away from the bike.
