1
Get a container deep enough to hold your longest brushes with multiple sections. Transparent plastic containers allow you to see what's inside. Always store your brushes with the handle in the container to prevent crushing the brush and destroying its shape.
-
2
Put foundation brushes together. Foundation brushes usually have a different type of hair than brushes for powdered products such as eyeshadow and blush. Always wash your foundation brushes after application.
-
-
3
Put concealer brushes together, next to your foundation brushes. Concealer brushes are usually made of the same material as foundation brushes but come in a smaller size. Like foundation brushes, concealer brushes should be kept separate from brushes used with dry or powdered products.
-
4
Group large, puffy brushes next to each other, but separate blush and bronzer brushes. Puffy brushes tend to retain some color, even after a thorough washing.
-
5
Organize eyeshadow brushes by size and color. Large, flat eyeshadow brushes should go together but you should separate the brushes you use for dark and light colors. Dark eyeshadow colors such as black, gray and navy can stain makeup brushes, even after washing.
-
6
Keep small and angled eyeliner brushes separate. These brushes are designed for creating clean lines around the eyes and usually have a delicate shape. Always wash these brushes after use, using your finger to work the soap through the hairs, keeping the shape of the brush.

Tips & Warnings
Foundation brushes are designed to help the product blend with your skin and should not be used with any dry makeup products.
Avoid using one puffy brush for multiple colored products -- unless you are blending on purpose -- to prevent your colors and brushes from becoming contaminated. On the same note, puffy brushes for dry makeup should never be used with wet or creamy products.
Do not dip eyeliner brushes into eyeshadow and other products.
Wash your makeup brushes regularly with a gentle facial cleanser or mild dish soap to kill bacteria and prevent pimples or blackheads.
Store your makeup brushes in a well-ventilated area that is relatively free of dust. The small hairs in makeup brushes make them an ideal target for attracting dust in the air.
