How to Make a Simple Bracelet thumbnail
Embroidery floss comes in dozens of different colors.

Using embroidery floss, you can make a simple bracelet in less than 10 minutes. These bracelets work well as a kids' craft for childcare centers, schools or home. You can make a braided bracelet or a beaded bracelet. Buy embroidery floss and beads at a craft store or in a sewing or jewelry-making department. For more advanced bracelet makers, adapt the techniques to fit their skills. For example, double the amount of strings used to braid the twist bracelet.

Instructions

  1. Braided Twist

    • 1

Measure 12 inches and cut three strands of embroidery floss. You can use any color combination you want. For example, use one strand of black and two of green.

    • 2

Hold the three strands together, ends even. Tie a knot at one end of the bracelet, leaving 1 inch of thread at one side of the knot.

    • 3

Tape the knot to a flat, sturdy surface. Leave the longer string hanging down.

    • 4

Braid the strands together. Do not pull on the strings. It can cause the knot to come out from under the tape.

    • 5

Pinch the untied end of the braid with one hand. Remove the tape with the other. Hold the two ends together and let the embroidery floss twist. If it does not twist itself, twist it with your fingers.

    • 6

Wrap the bracelet around someone's wrist and tie it.

    Beaded

    • 7

Cut a 6 to 8 inches strand of embroidery floss.

    • 8

Tie a double knot at one end of the string. The knot needs to be bigger than the holes in the beads. Leave one each of string free after the knot.

    • 9

Hold the string by the unknotted end. Let the knot hang down. Thread the beads through the string and gently push them down the string with your finger. Add beads until the bracelet is as long as you want it, or until 1.5 inches of strings are left. You can create a pattern with the beads by alternating colors. You can also tie a knot in between the beads. Remember that tying knots will shorten the string.

    • 10

Tie a knot right next to the last bead.

    • 11

Drape the bracelet over someone's wrist. Tie the ends into a knot.
