How to File for Unemployment Benefits in New Jersey

Once you file for unemployment benefits in New Jersey, the state's Department Of Labor & Workforce Development will conduct an investigation to determine whether or not you are eligible to receive benefits. During the investigation, your former employer is contacted to verify the reason for your unemployment. If the employer is at fault, it increases your chances for eligibility. Your wages for the past five quarters are also considered in the eligibility determination.
