How to Shoulder a Rifle
When hunting or target shooting, the shooter must have a firm grip on the rifle. All rifles have butt stocks, or the rear end of the rifle that is designed to fit securely against the shooter's shoulder for support. This support gives the shooter a firm grasp on the rifle, and alleviates some weight off the forearm. When you're shouldering the rifle, the goal is to maximize the amount of contact between your shoulder and the butt. It's critical to have full contact to prevent injury from recoil.
