Use Excel's copy-and-paste function to switch columns to rows.

Perhaps you created a spreadsheet, labeled all your columns and entered the data, only to discover that there are too many columns or that the spreadsheet doesn't all fit on one page when printed. Excel offers you the ability to transpose columns and rows without having to retype information. You can arrange and rearrange your data using the transpose feature until you are satisfied with the way your spreadsheet looks.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the Excel spreadsheet you want to adjust.

    • 2

Select the data you want to switch by clicking the first cell in the spreadsheet and dragging your mouse to the last cell in the worksheet until all the cells are highlighted. Alternatively, select the whole table by clicking the small gray triangle above the first row.

    • 3

Hold down the "Ctrl" key and press "C" to copy the cells.

    • 4

Click an empty cell in the same spreadsheet or in a new spreadsheet.

    • 5

Click the Home tab if it is not already selected, and then click the arrow under Paste.

    • 6

Select Transpose. Your data should now be copied and moved from columns to rows. You can either delete the original rows of data or keep them.
