Instructions

    • 1

Pick a piece of paper to make the card with. This can be a plain sheet of white or colorful construction paper. Whatever you choose, fold it in half to create the card.

    • 2

Use a pencil to sketch the design on the front of the card. This can be anything relating to your dad and his birthday. For example, if he loves sports, draw a baseball and football surrounding his new age. A birthday cake or balloons would also be appropriate drawings for the card. Use a stencil or trace a cookie cutter to create specific shapes. Your dad will probably also appreciate a depiction of the two of you. If you feel confident, draw a portrait of you and your dad.

    • 3

Write a birthday message or text on the front of the card. This might have something to do with the images you've drawn. For example, if you've created a sports themed birthday card, write something like "Happy Birthday to an All-Star Dad."

Trace your pencil drawings and message with a black marker or crayon. This will create a bold outline for your card. Fill in the lines with bright colors. Cover as much of the card in color as needed, but don't feel like you must color in the whole thing. You don't want to take away from your drawings with too much color.

Write a note inside the card for your dad. This can be as simple as "Happy Birthday" or include other special messages. Tell him why you think he's a wonderful dad or what wishes you have for him in the year to come. On the back of the card, personalize your creation with your name and the date you made it.
