How to Display Flowers in Water
Displaying flowers in water is an inexpensive way to create a unique home accent or table centerpiece. The buds you select for display can be any color, and you can pick them straight from the garden. You can also select whole stems of blossoms and submerge them in water in a clear vessel, as long as you anchor the stem so the flowers stay in position. When picking flowers for a water display, always select fresh blossoms without any spots or signs of wilting. Does this Spark an idea?

Upright Stems
-
1
Select the appropriate vessel for your display. If you want to display an entire stem of flowers, select a narrow vessel that is tall enough to fit the entire stem.
-
2
Pour 2 inches of sand into the bottom of the vessel. You can also use glass rocks or gravel. This material will anchor the flower stems.
-
-
3
Cut your flower stems, leaving at least 1 inch of bare stem at the bottom. Insert the bare stem into the anchoring material at the base of the vessel.
-
4
Fill the vessel with water, submerging the flower completely. Top the display with a floating candle, if desired.
Floating Flowers
-
5
Select an appropriate vessel for floating flowers. The larger the blooms you are using, the wider the vessel will need to be. Glass bowls are useful for floating flower displays. Once you select a container, fill it halfway with water.
-
6
Cut the stem off the flowers, leaving just the bloom and 1 inch of stem. The 1 inch of stem will anchor the flowers.
-
7
Lower the flowers, petals up, into the water in the bowl. Fill the bowl with as many flowers as you like. For an added touch, place decorative glass on the bottom of the bowl, or float tea lights in the water with the flowers.
