How to Design Your Own Tattoo Barbed Wire Lettering
When preparing to get a tattoo, the wearer comes to terms with the fact that this piece of art will be etched into his skin for life. To ensure that you have an original tattoo, you can ask an artist to draw something for you based on your ideas, or you can draw up a graphic or lettering yourself. If you make a rough draft of your tattoo and hand it to an artist, she can fine tune your ideas. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Print a sheet of barbed wire lettering or other lettering that appeals to your style. Print more than one if you want a combination of multiple styles. Print at least one with barbed wire graphics. Use this lettering for inspiration.
-
2
Put your tracing paper over the first page of lettering. Trace only the aspects you want for your tattoo. Omit any aspects of the lettering you do not like.

3
Put your tracing paper over another sheet of lettering. Repeat Step 2 for each sheet of lettering to combine the different styles.
-
4
Remove the tracing paper from the lettering sheets. You will have a mix of styles with open lines that need to be filled in and completed.
-
5
Fill in the empty areas freehand. If you could not find lettering that had barbed wire, now is the time to fill in the barbed wire knots where you would like them to be on your letters. Use the barbed wire alphabet as a guide. Bring the completed product to your tattoo artist.

Tips & Warnings
If you do not have exceptional drawing talent and you feel dissatisfied with your result, a tattoo artist can take your idea and sketch it for you in a more professional manner. This is why tattoo artists go to art school, and then they apprentice for many years.
