How to Disable Skype for Mac

One of the features of the Skype application on the Mac platform is that it automatically launches when you start your Mac computer. Although this feature may be beneficial if you use the application often, it can be irritating if you only use it occasionally. To stop Skype from automatically launching at startup, you need to remove it from the list of startup applications in the system. Removing the application from the list also reduces the amount of time it takes for your Mac computer to complete the startup process.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the "Apple" icon in the top-left corner of the desktop.

    • 2

Select "System Preferences" from the drop-down list. The System Preferences window opens.

    • 3

Click "Accounts," and then select your account from the left pane of the window.

    • 4

Click the "Login Items" tab, and then select "Skype" from the list of applications.

    • 5

Click the "-" button. Restart your Mac computer. The Skype application does not automatically launch at startup.
