How to Get Rid of a Scuff

A scuff is an unsightly dark mark that can appear on a variety of surfaces such as walls, shoes and floors. Scuffs are the result of one item such as furniture or shoes scrapping against another. You typically cannot remove scuffs with normal cleaning and -- if not removed -- can last for the life of the item. Fortunately, there are various methods that will remove the scuffs and restore the look of the surface.

Things You'll Need

• Pencil eraser
• White cloths
• All-purpose cleaner
• Water-displacing spray
• Magic cleaning eraser

Instructions

Eraser

1. Hold a pencil eraser in your hand and rub the scuff while lightly applying pressure. Remove the eraser shavings by wiping with a cloth. Continue rubbing for several passes.

2. Squirt an all-purpose cleaner onto a white cloth and wipe the surface clean.

3. Continue in this manner until you have removed all traces of the scuff from the surface.

Water-Displacing Spray

1. Dampen the scuff with a water-displacing spray such as WD-40.

2. Rub the scuff gently in a circular motion with a damp cloth. Apply more water-displacing spray and continue rubbing with the cloth until the marks are no longer visible.

3. Wipe the spray off the surface with a clean cloth damp with cool water.

Magic Cleaning Eraser

1. Hold the magic cleaning eraser under cool running water until saturated. Wring the excess liquid from the eraser.

2. Rub the scuffs off the surface with the cleaning eraser. Rub in a vigorous, back-and-forth motion for several seconds.

3. Wipe the surface clean with a damp cloth. Continue rubbing any remaining scuffs off the surface with the magic cleaning eraser.

• A white, foam pad, magic cleaning erasers are available in the cleaning aisle of department stores.
