How to Cut Frosting Sheets for a Cake
Frosting sheets are a versatile way you can decorate cakes, cookies, pastries and pies. You can airbrush any design you choose directly on the sheet or use a rubber stamp to press a design onto a frosting sheet. A printer loaded with an edible ink cartridge may also be used to print your design. Once your design is ready, you can easily cut the frosting sheet with a cake cutting machine, craft knife or scissors. A cake cutting machine gives your frosting sheet a clean professional look. 1
Prepare to cut your frosting sheet. Clean your mat and allow it to dry.
-
2
Coat your mat. Rub a coat of shortening on the mat using a pastry brush. The coating should not be white; if so, you used too much shortening.
-
-
3
Open the bag of frosting sheets. Take out sheets one at a time, then reseal the bag.
-
4
Remove the paper from the back of the sheet and spread shortening on the back using a pastry brush.
-
5
Put the frosting sheet on the greased mat. Use a smoother tool from a cake tool kit or a rolling pin to smooth out any air bubbles.
-
6
Cut your sheets. Follow the arrows on the cake cutter machine to set the cutting blade about 1/2-inch from the top and side of the sheet. Turn the machine to a medium speed and cut the sheet using medium pressure. Do not cut the mat.
-
7
Place the cut sheets in a plastic bag and seal it. This prevents the sheets from drying.
