How to Image an ATA Drive

If you want to make a complete image of one of your hard drives, use the Windows System Image creator. This creates an image of any of your Windows hard drives, whether ATA or SATA. You can choose to image just individual partitions or the whole drive in general. Imaging an ATA drive in this way also allows you to restore from it at a later date if you want to. This acts as a great backup method for hard drives.

Instructions

    • 1

Enter your Start menu (the Windows-logo button on the lower-left corner of your screen). Click "Control." Type "Backup and restore" into the Quick Search field, press "Enter," and then click "Create System Image."

    • 2

Choose the location for your backup and click "Next."

    • 3

Click the ATA drive you want to make an image of and click "Next."

    • 4

Click "Start backup" and wait while the image is created.
