How to Put Cables on '91 Honda Spark Plugs
Along with the spark plugs on your '91 Honda, spark plug cables are wear items that require attention during routine inspections. Operating issues such as rough idle, poor fuel economy and reduced power can be traced back to faulty or aged spark plug cables. The spark plug cables are relatively easy to install and can be done in under 30 minutes in most cases.

1
Open the hood of your '91 Honda. Use a combination wrench to disconnect the negative terminal cable from the battery.
-
2
Locate the spark plug cables on your '91 Honda. In most cases, they should still be attached to the spark plug and points on your vehicle's ignition coil pack or distributor. Remove and replace the spark plug cable one at a time to avoid mixing up cables.

Use your Honda repair manual to identify the number one cylinder on the engine, if the cables have been completely removed from the engine bay prior to this installation process. Locate the corresponding number one point on the ignition coil pack or distributor. Repeat the procedure for all of the cylinders and their corresponding coil pack or distributor points. Use a light-colored paint marker to mark each cylinder and point.
-
4
Apply a thin coat of dielectric grease on the point and push the L-shaped boot on the spark plug cable onto the point until it audibly clicks into place. Coat the metal point of the installed spark plug cable with dielectric grease and push the boot on the other end of the spark plug cable until it audibly clicks into place. Repeat the procedure for the other spark plugs and points.

5
Use a combination wrench to reconnect the negative terminal cable to the battery. Start the vehicle and let it idle. If the engine has a rough idle, the plugs may be in the wrong order. Consult the repair manual and double check the identity of each cylinder and point.
